Farewell dinner. And for dessert, eye candies, photographs, gameboys, games, and their heartening smiles.

Meeting of friends. Knowing among friends. Noises-inside and around. Then there was the natural cheering up followed by their toasts. I quietly lifted my own glass in peculiar solidarity and association.

7. I do not own a comb.

Haven’t used one for the last five or six years.

In response to Faye‘s “tag” game, here are my 6:

img_5247.jpg 1.) I love the site of things lined up in a row or stacked in a clean column.

This includes canisters on the counter; uniform clear plastic or glass boxes to store leftovers in the fridge; paperstacks on my desk; black, white, or matte steel hangers in the closet; CDs; files in blue folders, preferably.

2) I tear out my book chapters before I read or study them.

Then I’d staple the chapters together and carry some of them around with me. I don’t tear out novels and other books for pleasure though. I still honor their sanctity and good smell. 😉 And I don’t tear out books I checked out from the library.

3) I put salt on almost every fruit I eat.

Green grapes, strawberries, watermelon, nectarines, peaches, mangoes, pears, kiwi…what’s weird about this?

4) I eat popcorn with coffee.

To my great and happy surprise, Ethiopians do this! I must be an Ethiopian in my past life.

5) I often start to read a number of books at the same time.

Proudly a product of a generation of short attention spans. When in the bathroom, I’m currently reading, “How to Choose A Medical Specialty” and sometimes the Bible. Then I sit by my desk and read my torn medical book chapters, Chapter 4 something of Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point (until I got an email from the library that it was long overdue), and a quick shift to Chapter 7 of Emily Transue’s On Call (until again another email from the library overdue list…needless to say, I would have to renew for the nth time!). When in the bedroom, I have a ready outdated magazine of choice and some chapters farther off Einstein’s Dreams a few minutes later. And I half read various online newspapers and blogs at the start of my day…and so at the end of the day, I would not know yet what happened to those people or events in the stories, I would either know the next day if I would remember to read back or just end up wondering…

6) Sampaloc (Tamarind) comforts me more than Chocolate.

Be it the Philippine tamarind products (with chili, without, sweet, salty, sweet and salty, etc.), Thailand’s yummy candy-like versions or my one-time adventure with Mexico’s crude but tasty offering. I think chocolate is overrated. I love sampaloc. Period.

There it is. :-)The game rules, if I may:

“This is what you are supposed to do. Cut and paste if you decide to participate in the tagging game.

Each player of this game starts off by giving six weird things about themselves. People who get tagged need to write in a blog of their own six weird things as well as state the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose six people to be tagged and list their names.

After you do that, leave them each a comment letting them know you tagged them and to read your blog.”

I don’t know much friends who blog. I can only think of three. So, I’m tagging Gerry, Angel, and I’m tagging back Faye.

Ode To Sadness

by Pablo Neruda

Sadness, scarabwith seven crippled feet, spiderweb egg,scramble-brained rat, bitch’s skeleton. No entry here.Don’t come in.Go away.Go backsouth with your umbrella,go backnorth with your serpent’s teeth.A poet lives here.No sadness maycross this threshold.Through these windowscomes the breath of the world, fresh red roses, flags embroidered withthe victories of the people.No.No entry.Flapyour bat’s wings,I will trample the feathersthat fall from your mantle,I will sweep the bits and piecesof your carcass tothe four corners of the wind,I will wring your neck,I will stitch your eyelids shut,I will sew your shroud, sadness, and bury your rodent bonesbeneath the springtime of an apple tree.
